Gareth Southgate: Keeping England manager ‘tough ask’ for FA, says technical director Les Reed

FA technical director Les Reed has admitted it could be a”tough ask” to prevent Gareth Southgate from leaving his role as England boss to join a Premier League club.
Southgate has mastered a dramatic transformation since being promoted from his position since U21 boss in 2016, contributing England into also the inaugural Nations League finals along with the 2018 World Cup semi-finals the summer.
By where he had been sacked in 2009 his side was relegated from the Premier League, the 49-year-old’s only previous experience as a club manager came in an spell at Middlesbrough.
“It could be a tough ask based on which he was provided,” Reed told Sky Sports News. “But I know Gareth’s mindset right now is that he wishes to become a England manager that wins something.
“I believe the fascination of becoming the next England boss to carry us into some World Cup final is a strong pull and I think he understands that by doing that his stock is not going to go down.
“Obviously it’s something which we have at the back of our heads all the time but I know Gareth’s motivation is with this particular team and creating this group moving forward.”
England will look to keep their perfect start to the campaign when they sponsor Kosovo on Tuesday evening and have transported their remarkable form beneath Southgate into qualifying for its 2020 Union.
Southgate’s side defeated Bulgaria 4-0 at Wembley on Saturday to make it three wins from three Group A, with 14 goals and one .
