The 100th season of Even the NFL will begin on Thursday night when the Chicago Bears host the Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field, exclusively live on Sky Sports Action and Main Event.
This is exactly what to expect…
Green Bay (6-9-1 final season) finally forced a head coaching change at the end of last season after 13 decades of Mike McCarthy and his crime which had plenty of success but finally become stale and predictable. Matt LaFleur, that arrives as a Sean McVay’ disciple’ from Tennesee, will at the minimum imply defenses will not understand what to expect.
The protection has witnessed a whole revamp, with the Packers uncharacteristically spending big in free service (Za’Darius Smith, Preston Smith and Adrian Amos) and incorporating two first-round picks from the 2019 NFL Draft (Rashan Gary and Darnell Savage Jr).
After an eight-year playoff lack, the Bears (12-4) returned to the postseason. First-year head trainer Matt Nagy was appointed Coach of the Year, second-year quarterback Mitchell Trubisky bettering his death touchdowns (24) in the year prior and the defense let a league-low 17.7 points. There was at home A first-round playoff leave finally a major disappointment.
Last year’s breakout means Chicago have heavy expectations this season, and the way they respond to this reduction of defensive coordinator Vic Fangio (Denver’s new head trainer ) can go a long way to determining their success. Will Chuck Pagano be in a position to replicate the sanity of last year, although the players are still there?
It starts with Aaron Rodgers along with his target last year Davante Adams, who hauled 111 passes. But the question is can offense look with LaFleur? Can Rodgers be slinging it? What’s the plan with Aaron Jones along with the game?
Green Bay also have a secondary using playmakers. Jaire Alexander was exceptional as a beginner, and Adrian Amos Kevin King and rookie Darnell Savage Compose the rest of the back four. Can they produce a employee turnover?
Chicago fans may wish to watch Mitchell Trubisky progress in year two with Nagy. Does he return to his 2015 Pro Bowl form now healthy, although wideout Allen Robinson returned from injury last season?
Rookie running back David Montgomery can be anticipated to have a direct effect, and he could assist.
Then, one of a whole team of studs, there’s Khalil Mack. In last year’s opener against the Pack, he managed a single sack, one forced fumble, 1 recovery, an interception and a touchdown. Plus, he added 2.5 sacks in the return fixture. He could single-handedly win the game for Chicago.
The series record between the two of these will be 97-95-6 in favour of this Packers. Last year, the spoils were shared 1-1 with both teams winning by one score. These groups are tough to separate.
But we are looking for the new Green Bay crime and the way they are going to take care of the pass-rush that is fantastic, tackling linebackers and hardy secondary of Chicago.
The last time the two groups met, Rodgers was stifled – 42 moves were thrown by him with no touchdowns, only 25 completions and one pick – and has been sacked five times. Top rusher Jamaal Williams just managed 55 yards on the floor also.
LaFleur’s attack – and how he calls the game against this defense – are the trick to the matchup.
