Kyler Murray had a really tough go in his next preseason game as a pro, leaving the game down 26–0 and finishing the night with adverse yardage. Murray wasnt great — but had been everything bad as it seemed, or is there any reason for hope?
Kyler Murray had a Thursday rough night, and the web is currently freaking out. Last week Everything started out. Murray played with one show in his first game leading his Arizona Cardinals into position prior to exitings edge and completing his first six passes.
Murray had a much worse outing Thursday against the Oakland Raiders. He performed a lot of this first halfand by the time he left, Murray and the Cards trailed the Raiders 26 to zip.
And the world wide web, obviously, melted.
Lets start with the harm. Theres a whole lot of it.
Murray played with drives . These drives gained 13, -6, -10, and -10 yards. Murray played with most of the half, leaving the match almost exactly halfway through the next quarter. The Cardinals had 21 seconds of ownership and only 8 minutes from four possessions. Back in 15 plays that were offensive, they started to shed 13 yards.
Murray ran for four yards, a designed run on his very first play from scrimmage. He completed only 3 of 8 passes for just 12 yards, a measly 1.5 metres a week. Murray needed a 45.8 quarterback speed for the day. He had three penalties himself a delay of game and two false starts — and was sacked twice. One of these was his drama of the afternoon, an 11-yard sack at the end zone for a security that ended. When he left the game, the Cardinals were trailing 26–0.
In the middle of the next quarter –into the RAIDERS.
Calling Murrays consequences ugly is a insult to the word awful. But was it as bad as it looked?
Let us dig a little deeper in the conditions. Theres some really bad and some good. The poor? Murray played with all of his time about the field, so it is not like he didnt have some talent . DJ and also Fitz shared three targets. They grabbed one of them and lost three yards. Welp. Four times rushed . Lots of digits.
The Cardinals had only one first down at Murrays time. It came from a defensive penalty, illegal hands to the facearea. Recall the match was abandoned by Murray down 26? The Cards ran, copy QB Brett Hundley threw a touchdown. Arizona outscored Oakland 26–7 without Murray.
However there was quite a little not in Murrays prefer. The run game couldnt get anything going, and the offensive line placed in a gloomy performance. Oakland blitzed Murray ancient and often, hoping to force the newcomer into rapid conclusions, and all match was projecting his back .
The four drives that were Murray of arizona began about 25 the 10, 24, along with 10-yard line. He faced a 3rd and 11, 3rd and 12, 3rd and 13, both 3rd and 17, and 3rd and 25 on forces. Thats a lot for any outsider of disadvantageous scenarios and dreadful field positions. The 1 time Murray faced a 3rd and short, David Johnson ripped off a big run for a first down… and got called back on a holding penalty. The Cardinals couldnt capture any rhythm.
The simple reality is that almost any cop would have fought in Murrays area. The Arizona offensive lineup was awful, and Murray had a guy or two in his head after the snap pretty much every play over minutes. He performed every snap and had zero plays where the offense had an advantage. Quarterbacks would have, although he didnt perform per se.
Murrays match wasnt an indictment on his arm or his height his conclusions, nor his future. If anything, it could have been an indictment of Kliff Kingsburys crime — though that fights to hold up when the Cardinals scored 26 points later Murray left. Maybe the defense is just that great. Maybe it was just four drives that are bad.
More probable than anything else is that Kingsbury is keeping things vanilla. Why roll out your finest plays when the games do not matter and give your script ? Theres no reason to conduct Murray and put him with nothing at stake in danger.
Murray was not good Thursday night but that he was not terrible either. He just never had much of a opportunity. It is far too soon to draw some conclusions.
Murray remains the Rookie of the Year preferred, +165 in Bovada. The Cardinals are +10000 to win the Super Bowl, in case you are feeling lucky, or +600 to create the movie. They re, if youre a little bearish on the opportunities of Arizona. Happy gambling.
