Derby County captain Richard Keogh has been ruled out before the close of the year after sustaining a severe knee injury”as a result of an alcohol-related incident”the club has confirmed.
The incident occurred on Tuesday night, on which Derby explained in a declaration as a”scheduled team-building supper with staff”.
The team has promised to maintain a”rigorous internal evaluation” to the activities of some of their players, while also promising to”support them using their rehabilitation back into the squad and team”.
“As a team, we cannot, and don’t, condone the actions of a small number of gamers on Tuesday evening,” read the official statement.
“The players had been out within a scheduled team-building supper together with staff and as the vast majority of them acted responsibly and abandoned around 8pm and were not involved, a small group, for example, team captain Richard Keogh, lasted drinking at evening.
“They ought to have known when to stop and ignored the chance to be driven home using cars placed from the club, and chose to remain out.
“As a consequence of an alcohol-related episode, Richard Keogh has endured a serious knee injury which can prevent him from playing until the end of the season.
“The players involved with the episode on Tuesday evening will be subject to a rigorous internal evaluation under the club’s code of conduct and disciplinary procedures, but over and above any punishment they get we will be expecting them to become involved with all the fantastic job the Community Trust will serving the communities we all serve.
“We have been very clear about our attitude towards alcohol and the players understand that at particular and particular instances of the season they’re allowed a drink together as a set at a controlled environment.
“Those included in Tuesday’s episode know they will pay a heavy price for their actions, but also that we’ll support them with their rehabilitation back into the team and squad.
