Kieren Fallon had to settle for fourth place as the spoils were taken by Sammy Jo Bell aboard Dubai Acclaim from the Mondialiste Leger Legends Classified Stakes.
Champion Flat jockey Fallon, who wrapped his saddle up at 2016, gave the Nigel Tinkler-trained Kilbaha Lady every opportunity over the mile, but could never quite get to a winning position.
That honour went to Bell, who gave up riding through trauma in February 2018 and is helping her partner Philip Makin in his turn from jockey to coach.
Destroyer had taken the 16-strong field as well that raises cash for Jack Berry House and its National Horseracing College, but has been swamped as the pace hotted up more than two furlongs out.
Inspired by Richard Fahey, Dubai Acclaim (5-1) hit the front and simply held the late boom of Noel Fehily on Hammer Gun by a short head in a thrilling finish.
Flying Dragon was three-quarters of a length away in third, together with another two and a quarter lengths back to Fallon and Kilbaha Lady at fourth.
Fallon – riding for the very first time on precisely the identical card as son Cieren junior – stated:”I thought I was going well enough to win, it was just when I requested her to quicken she simply didn’t let herself down on the floor.
“I travelled better than anything else and believed I was going to triumph, but we didn’t. It’s all for a good cause, though.”
A delighted Bell explained:”It was really great, I think I hit the front too soon, but that was only me getting excited.
“I am very thankful to Richard for providing me a ride and it is great to pay him back with a winner. I truly loved it.
“I did just just hold on, however, that was me moving too soon – the horse was out me. He was good. The previous time I stumbled was a yearling.
“I’m not as fit as I used to be, I understand that far, but we are quite busy at the lawn, so that I have not done as much prep as I’d have enjoyed.”
Fehily, who declared his intention to retire after riding a winner at Cheltenham in March, stated:”The trainer told me to not hit the front too soon, but I believe I overdid the waiting tactics!
“I got blocked in my hands just over a furlong out and that I needed to switch, it probably just cost mepersonally, but he’s run a blinder.
“It has been a fantastic occasion for a wonderful cause and I’m just delighted to have been asked to take part. Hopefully we have raised lots of cash.”
