Joe Root has insisted he is still the ideal man to take England’s cricket team ahead regardless of criticism of the captaincy.
During the Ashes, Test captain Root believed 325 runs at 32.5, the third most runs from an England player and also the sixth most complete.
In addition, he took three wickets in 40.66 and created seven grabs, with only wicket-keeper Jonny Bairstow making more for the hosts.
But since becoming captain his batting has endured and Australia retained the Ashes with a 2-2 draw, but Root claims he’s the perfect person to lead the side in future.
He said:”I want to be 100 per cent. I love it.
“I’m really honoured to captain England and I want to take this team forward.
“I really do think I’m the ideal man to take action. Hopefully I can find the backing and I will prove everyone right.”
Even the Yorkshire batsman also admitted the famous plan to turn their white-ball game to of England, culminating in their World Cup win that was magnificent this summertime, had to be reproduced from cricket.
He continued:”Winning the Ashes rear is a massive attention for English cricket, so it has to be now.
“Slimming down in Australia would be a wonderful achievement and for me personally as Test captain I’d like to actually push this.
“We will need to be as ready as we could be and that should begin today. I am actually excited about starting this winter and it’s going to be a very exciting journey.”
T20 and one-day vice-captain Jos Buttler stated the team already had the hallmarks of the captaincy of Root.
“Joe’s place his stamp on the group ! He has been captain for a short time. Of course we want more consistent benefits but we have got the makings of an excellent team.”
Bowler Stuart Broad added:”You only have to check in Joe’s captaincy list, and it’s more successful than many England captains. The players are well aware we could be more consistent, and we’ll deliver this.”
