Kyler Murray Was Awful, Was It As Bad As It Looked?

Share:

Kyler Murray had a really rough go in his next preseason game as a pro, leaving the game down 26–0 finishing the night with negative yardage. Was everything as bad as it seemed, or is there any reason for hope — although murray wasnt good?
Kyler Murray had a Thursday rough night, and the web is currently freaking out. This past week Everything started out so well. Murray played 1 show in his very first game finishing his first six passes and directing his Arizona Cardinals to the edge of position prior to exiting.
Murray had a outing Thursday from the Oakland Raiders. He played much of this first halfand from the Cards along with Murray trailed the 26 to zip.
Along with the web, obviously, melted.
Let us begin with the harm. There is a great deal of it.
Murray played with four drives against the Raiders. Those drives acquired 13, -6, -10, and -10 yards. Murray played the majority of the half, which makes the match halfway through the quarter. The Cardinals had only 8 minutes and 21 seconds of ownership from four possessions combined in that time. Back in 15 offensive plays, they combined to shed 13 yards.
Murray ran for 3 yards, a run on his very first play. He finished only 3 of 8 passes for only 12 meters, a measly 1.5 yards a week. Murray had a 45.8 quarterback rate for the evening. He had three penalties himself a delay of match and two starts — and was sacked twice. One of those was his play of the day, an 11-yard sofa at the end zone for a safety that ended. When he left the game, the Cardinals were trailing 26–0.
At the center of the second quarter –into the RAIDERS.
Calling Murrays consequences awful is an insult to the word ugly. However, was it as bad as it looked?
Let us dig. There is some good and some really bad. The bad? Murray and Larry Fitzgerald and David Johnson played all of his time about the field, so it is not like that he didnt have any talent around him. Fitz and DJ shared three goals. They grabbed one of them lost three yards. Welp. Johnson raced four times for six yards. Plenty of single digits.
The Cardinals had one first down at Murrays time. It came from a penalty, illegal hands to the facearea. Recall Murray left the game down 26–0? On the next play the Cards conducted, a touchdown threw. Arizona outscored Oakland 26–7 with no Murray.
But there was not in Murrays prefer also. The run game could not get anything going, along with the line set in a performance that is gloomy. Oakland blitzed Murray often and early, hoping to force the newcomer into rapid decisions, and all game threw off his back foot.
The four drives of arizona began to line, 25, 24, along with the 10. He faced 3rd and 11, both 3rd and 12, both 3rd and 13, both a 3rd and 17, as well as 3rd and 25 on drives. That is a whole lot of field places and disadvantageous scenarios for any quarterback. The 1 time Murray faced a 3rd and short, David Johnson ripped off a major run to get a first down… and got called back on a holding penalty. The Cardinals couldnt catch any rhythm.
The reality is that almost any cop would have fought in Murrays area. The Arizona offensive line was awful, and Murray had two or a man in his face after the snap pretty much every single play over minutes. He played every snap together with his back from his own goal line and had zero plays where the crime had an benefit. Quarterbacks could have, although he did not play per se.
Murrays game wasnt an indictment in his height or his arm, nor his conclusions, nor his future. If anything, it may have been an indictment of Kliff Kingsburys crime — although that struggles to maintain up when the Cardinals scored 26 points later Murray left. Perhaps the defense is simply that great. Perhaps it was only four forces.
More likely than anything else is that Kingsbury is probably keeping things vanilla. Roll out your plays once the games dont matter and give your script ? There is no reason to conduct Murray and place him with nothing on the line in danger.
Murray wasnt good Thursday night but he was not terrible. He simply never had much of a opportunity. It is much too soon to draw any conclusions.
Murray stays the heavy Rookie of the Year preferred, +165 in Bovada. The Cardinals will be +10000 to win at the Super Bowl, in case youre feeling lucky, or +600 to make the playoffs. If you are a bit more bearish on the chances of Arizona, they re +750 to complete with the worst record in the NFL. Happy betting.
