Kyler Murray had a really tough go in his next preseason game as a pro, leaving the match down 26–0 finishing the night with negative yardage. Murray was not fine — but was bad as it looked, or is there any reason for hope?
Kyler Murray had a Thursday rough night, along with the internet is currently freaking out. A week, it all started out. Murray played just 1 series in his very first game as a master, finishing his first six passes and directing his Arizona Cardinals to scoring position before exitings edge.

One of these was his play of the afternoon, an 11-yard sofa at the end zone for a safety that ended his night. After he left the game, the Cardinals were trailing 26–0.

Calling Murrays results awful is a insult to the term ugly. But was it as bad as it looked?
Lets dig a little deeper into the conditions. Theres some bad and some good. The poor? Murray and both David Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald played all his time around the field, so it is not like he didnt have any talent . DJ and also Fitz shared three goals. They captured one of them and lost three yards. Welp. Four times rushed . Tons of digits.
The Cardinals had one first down in Murrays time around the field. It came from a penalty to the face. Remember Murray abandoned the match down 26? The Cards ran, a touchdown threw. Arizona outscored Oakland 26–7 with no Murray.
But there was really a bit maybe not in Murrays favor too. The run game couldnt get anything going, along with the offensive line put in a performance that is gloomy. Oakland blitzed Murray often and ancient, hoping to force the newcomer into rapid conclusions, and all game threw off his back foot.
Arizonas four drives that were Murray started to the 10, 25, 24, along with lineup. He faced 11 and a 3rd, 3rd and 12, both 3rd and 13, both 3rd and 17, as well as 3rd and 25 on various forces. That is a whole lot for any outsider of field places and disadvantageous scenarios. The 1 time Murray faced a 3rd and short, David Johnson ripped off a huge run for a first down… and got called back on a holding penalty. The Cardinals simply couldnt catch any rhythm.
The reality is that virtually any cop could have fought in Murrays place. The Arizona offensive line was dreadful, and Murray had a man or two in his head within seconds. He had zero plays where the crime had an advantage and played every snap. Quarterbacks could have, although he did not play well, per se.
Murrays match wasnt an indictment on his arm or his height , nor his decisions, nor his long run. If anything, it could have been an indictment of Kliff Kingsburys offense — though that struggles to maintain up when the Cardinals scored 26 points after Murray left. Possibly the Raiders defense is that good. It was only four poor drives.
More likely than anything else is the fact that Kingsbury is probably keeping things vanilla. Why roll out your plays when the games give your winning script and dont matter? Theres no reason to conduct Murray and place him with nothing on the line at risk.
Murray was not good Thursday night but he was not terrible. He just never had much of a chance to begin with. It is far too soon to draw some conclusions.
Murray remains the heavy Rookie of the Year favorite. The Cardinals will be +600 to make the playoffs, or +10000 if youre feeling lucky to acquire the Super Bowl. They re +750 to finish with the worst record in the NFL, if youre a bit bearish on the chances of Arizona. Happy betting.
