Melvin Gordon set for Los Angeles Chargers return after contract dispute

Melvin Gordon may end his holdout and report on Thursday to the Los Angeles Chargers, according to a source.
The running has been absent.
Gordon is not expected to play if the Chargers (1-2) travel to Miami (0-3) on Sunday, but might incorporate in their next two matches at home against Denver and Pittsburgh.
“I really don’t think you walk in camp and only play right away. You can run and perform all the drills you want but it’s not easy to simulate actual soccer,” coach Anthony Lynn said before training on Wednesday.
Gordon was supposed to earn $5.6m (#4.5m) on the fifth-year option of his rookie contract. That total decreased by roughly $329,412 (#266,679) for each game he misses.
Gordon is also subject to fines of up to $40,000 (#32,382) under the collective-bargaining agreement for every day he missed training camp.
Contract discussions were suspended by general manager Tom Telesco with Gordon’s agents until after this season.
Gordon was seeking an extension of $13m (Number 10.52m) to $14.4m (#11.67m) annually, which was equal to prices accepted by Todd Gurley, David Johnson and Le’Veon Bell.
The Chargers offered approximately $10m (#8.1m) annually.
The Chargers crime hasn’t sputtered in his absence, although gordon has obtained over 1,200 yards from scrimmage and scored 10 or more touchdowns in three seasons.
Austin Ekeler leads AFC running backs in yards from scrimmage and Justin Jackson is averaging 7.9 yards per carry.
Chargers running springs are averaging 5.4 yards per carry, and it is third best in the league and above a yard over the NFL average.
Quarterback Philip Rivers said that it would be up on how to deal with his return to Lynn and he hasn’t talked to Gordon.
“I know it would be good to see him,” Rivers said.
