After finishing third in stage five, italian Matteo Trentin regained the overall outcome of the Tour of Britain.
The 174.1km stage, which started and ended in Birkenhead with the road taking the riders through Cheshire, was acquired by Dutch driver Dylan Groenewegen.
Groenewegen, racing for Team Jumbo-Visma, finished in the same time as Britain’s Matt Walls and Trentin.
Trentin, riding for Mitchelton-Scott, retains a overall lead over cyclist Mathieu van der Poel.
Thirty-year-old Trentin today holds a three-second advantage and had been high but dropped before reclaiming top spot every day later.
The first step of eight phases takes place on Thursday and is now a 14.4km individual time trial in Pershore, Worcestershire.
Groenewegen’s victory on point five had been his third in five days of this contest after winning point one from Glasgow to Kirkcudbright on Saturday and stage three from Berwick to Newcastle on Monday, even though he sits 61st.
With three stages you’ll find 3 British riders in the top 20. Ben Swift out of Team Ineos is first known, Matthew Holmes of Madison Genesis is 15th using Swiftcarbon Pro Cycling’s James Shaw at 19th.
